#CiviOneClick Project - Update No. 3

Hello #CiviOneClick community,

An update on the #CiviOneClick project of Software für Engagierte e. V. (SfE) is long overdue: the first version of the Docker image is ready, the Kubernetes cluster is in the making and we had very productive discussions with the CiviCRM Core Team and the community at the sprint in Hamburg!

It's very exciting to see #CiviOneClick taking form and we are super grateful for the wonderful support from everybody - we can't say it often enough: thank you so much!

We hope you enjoy the update and send you some wonderful sunshine from Germany

Your SfE-team Andreas, Bene, Detlev and Theresa

#CiviOneClick at the Sprint in Hamburg

Our #CiviOneClick hybrid sessions during the very well organised sprint in Hamburg were differently as expected: less coding, but therefore lots of important discussions on the architecture of #CiviOneClick in order to make it adaptable for as many user stories and different contexts as possible.

We discussed with Tim and Ben from the Core Team, Michael from Third Sector Design, Ahmet from Skvare and very motivated and persistent community members, about the environment variables of Standalone, fpm and/or apache web server, data portability, data export and backup. We also created a new wording to specify the preconfigured installs provided with CiviOneClick: it’s “flavors” (it’s summer, so we got inspired by ice cream :-). So we thought about ways how to install extensions and flavor extensions and the first flavor (for event organisations) got created.

If you want to contribute to the discussions or to solving some of the issues, please have a look at GitLab. Any contribution is highly appreciated!

The Docker Image - It's all in a Box!

Michael from Third Sector has been spending many hours creating an amazing Docker image, which meets the requirements of #CiviOneClick, will become the official Docker image of CiviCRM - maintained by the Core Team - and can also be used by the community in many other contexts.

All in one box (with different layers), the image allows an easier installation with CiviCRM Standalone. Don't we all like to unwrap parcels? :-)

Here you can find the repository of the current image.

Some issues are still pending. If you want to support the coding process, have a look at for example the issue of "flavor" extension, which would allow the user to install a set of extensions and configurations that meet a particular use case, e.g. sports clubs or event organisers.

The Kubernetes Cluster

Ahmet from Skvare has been spending an extra shift creating the first version of the Kubernetes cluster. It is based on the Docker image and will allow for an easy orchestration and the scalability of the software. The cluster will also make it possible to choose different PHP versions and carries out other magical things.

Have a look at the first version!

Random stuff

Thanks to the team of Standalone and the Core Team: We are very happy and excited that we can use Standalone for the #CiviOneClick project and wanted to say a big thanks to the team of CiviCRM Standalone who have been working on it all these months with so much enthusiasm! Same goes for Ben and also Tim from the Core Team, who are trying their best since many weeks to fix an issue essential for the #CiviOneClick project.
